Wood privacy fence styles and sightlines
Ask to see the proposed board arrangement from both sides and at an angle. Compare a simple side-by-side layout with overlapping or alternating-board options. The useful question is how much of the yard remains visible from the places that concern you.
If privacy around a patio matters more than screening the whole property, explain that. A provider can discuss where a solid run would help and where another style might fit. Describe the desired result before deciding a fence height; check the final proposal through the local planning route.
Wood fencing on sloped ground
Walk the proposed line and note where the ground changes. Ask the provider to show the finished top line and the space beneath the boards. A stepped layout and a layout that follows the ground can look very different.
Pay special attention near a gate, beside a retaining wall or where water crosses the boundary. Ask how the fence will meet those features without assuming that the entire yard can use one repeated panel detail. Do not treat a fence as a retaining wall.
Privacy fence gates and posts
A gate is part of the structure, not just a gap in the boards. Ask what will support it, how it will be braced and which way it will open. For a wide opening, compare the proposed single or double gate arrangement and how each leaf will be secured.
Request the post and rail specification along with the visible boards. If an old fence is being removed, ask whether any posts are proposed for reuse and why. See replacement scope for the removal questions.
Caring for a pressure-treated wood fence
Pressure treatment does not mean wood stays unchanged outdoors. YellaWood’s care guidance explains changes linked to drying and weathering. Follow the instructions for the wood and any finish you select.
Ask whether staining or sealing is included, excluded or planned as a later task. Get the care instructions and any actual written warranty from the chosen provider or manufacturer. This website does not supply or warrant the fence.
Comparing wood fence installation quotes
Compare the board arrangement and size, posts, rails, gate hardware and finish. Then check old-fence removal, cleanup and any allowance for difficult digging. A lower total may simply describe less work.
Our cost guide includes regional wood-fence examples with clear limits. If you are also considering a panel system, compare vinyl fencing.
